Two silver medals for Fusion juniors at Cleveland Junior 4 Star

Eight Fusion players made the trip to Middlesbrough Sports Village for the Cleveland Junior 4 Star All-Comers on 26–27 September. The squad travelled up on the Friday night, and the event drew its largest entry for several years, with over 160 players from across the UK.

Daniel Pavia had an outstanding weekend. He topped his U13 group without dropping a match and reached the final, beating top seed Lusio Wen 3-1 in the semi-final. He also topped his U15 group and reached the last 16, and played every round of the Cadet Team event. By the finals Daniel had played so many matches that his legs had nothing left, and he lost the U13 final to Léo Shahmurov. It’s a silver medal that shows how far he’s come.

Daniel and Samvit Balaji also took silver in the Cadet Boys’ Team. Fusion A beat Ormesby A 3-1 and Bede 3-2 to reach the final, where they lost 3-2 to eBaTT. Samvit was the star of the final, beating both Lusio Wen and Léo Shahmurov, and the pair won the first game of the doubles 11-9. The doubles was the decider – had it gone Fusion’s way, the title could have been theirs.

Samvit also reached the U15 last 16 and the U19 last 32, where he pushed top seed Rohan Dani hard in a 14-12, 12-10, 11-8 defeat. Haruki Bohl reached the U15 last 32, Carl Pangilinan the U19 last 32, and Fusion’s Junior Boys’ Team went out to Archway, who went on to win the event.
